GOP Governor Recalls National Guard Resources From Border Over Family Separations

GOP Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Tuesday recalled a National Guard helicopter and 4 crewmembers from New Mexico over President Trump’s policy of separating children from their families at the border.

“Until this policy of separating children from their families has been rescinded, Maryland will not deploy any National Guard resources to the border,” Hogan wrote on Twitter.

“Earlier this morning, I ordered our 4 crewmembers & helicopter to immediately return from where they were stationed in New Mexico.”

The Hill added:

Hogan’s decision comes as the Trump administration faces an onslaught of backlash over its “zero-tolerance” immigration policy.

According to The Associated Press, approximately 2,000 children were removed from their families as a result of the policy in recent weeks.

Hogan on Monday called on the Trump administration and lawmakers to work together on immigration reform.

“Washington has failed again & again to deliver needed immigration reform - Congress and the administration must step up and work together to fix our broken system,” Hogan tweeted.

“Immigration enforcement efforts should focus on criminals, not separating innocent children from their families.”
