Brazilian Official Who Met Trump At Mar-A-Lago Has Tested Positive For Coronavirus: ‘We Sat Next To Each Other’
A close aide to Brazil’s president who attended a dinner with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend has tested positive for novel coronavirus, Bloomberg reported.
Fabio Wajngarten, President Jair Bolsonaro’s communications secretary, will reportedly have his samples submitted for a second test for final COVID-19 confirmation, local newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo reported.
Bloomberg reports that Wajngarten was part of the presidential entourage during a trip to Florida earlier this week.
Photos shared on Instagram show him standing next to Trump while wearing a “Make Brazil Great Again” hat.
Bolsonaro has canceled his official agenda on Thursday and remains at the presidential palace after he was placed under medical observation, according to two people close to him who requested anonymity because the information isn’t public.
Asked about the news, Trump said he was “not concerned.”
“I did hear something about that,” he told reporters at the White House. “We had dinner together in Florida, at Mar-a-Lago, with the entire delegation. I don’t know if the press aide was there. If he was there, he was there.”
“We did nothing very unusual, we sat next to each other for a period of time,” he said. “I had a great conversation. He’s doing a terrific job in Brazil and uh we’ll find out what happens. I guess they’re being tested right now?”
