Donald Trump on Wednesday lashed out at new polling results showing that at least six Democratic presidential candidates would defeat Trump in a head-to-head election matchup.
The president dismissed the survey as “fake polls” and claimed that his campaign’s internal polling shows that he is “winning in every single state that we’ve polled.”
Trump said: “We have great internal because we have great internal polling. There were fake polls that were released by somebody that is — it’s ridiculous. No, we are winning in every single state that we’ve polled. We’re winning in Texas very big. We’re winning in Ohio very big. We’re winning in Florida very big. There were fake polls that were put out by the corrupt media because much of the media in this country is corrupt, I have to tell you that, Mr. President, some is excellent, but some is very bad. You know when you’re going to see that? You’re going to see that on election day. It was the same thing — I had the same thing for — I had the same thing for a long period of time in 2016.”

He continued: “I was getting these terrible poll numbers and I didn’t see it. Because I would have tremendous crowds and my opponent would have almost nobody. And I said I think we’re going to win the state of Michigan, we did. I think we’re going to win the state of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and we won them all. They’re giving out phony polls. These are polls that we have that nobody saw. We do very little polling because I’m not a huge believer in polling. I think you go out there and fight and you don’t need polls. You need ideas more than polls. But we have some internal polling, very little, and it’s unbelievably strong. The strongest I’ve ever been is exactly today.”
Earlier this morning Trump tweeted: “The Fake News has never been more dishonest than it is today. Thank goodness we can fight back on Social Media. Their new weapon of choice is Fake Polling, sometimes referred to as Suppression Polls (they suppress the numbers). Had it in 2016, but this is worse…”
He also denied a report in the New York Times that his campaign’s own internal polling found him in a weak position across 17 states.
“The Fake (Corrupt) News Media said they had a leak into polling done by my campaign which, by the way and despite the phony and never ending Witch Hunt, are the best numbers WE have ever had,” Trump wrote. “They reported Fake numbers that they made up & don’t even exist. WE WILL WIN AGAIN!”
Quinnipiac University released a devastating poll on Tuesday showing Trump trailing six Democratic contenders by between five and 13 points among 1,214 registered voters polled nationwide.
The poll showed former vice-president Joe Biden holding the strongest advantage over Trump, polling at 13 points above him in a head-to-head matchup. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders held a nine-point advantage. Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren led Trump by seven and eight points respectively. South Bend mayor, Pete Buttigieg, and the New Jersey senator Cory Booker each came in five points ahead of Trump.
