MSNBC Host Dismantles Trump Press Secretary’s Blatant Lie About The Washington Post

Journalists on Friday called out White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham after she falsely claimed The Washington Post did not cover news it did in fact cover.

In a two-part tweet complaining about the Post’s coverage of the president, Grisham wrote: “The Post could have written about the president’s directive to ease all federal student loan debt for disabled veterans. They didn’t.”

She added: “They could have written about the first time in history a sitting United States president walked across the DMZ into North Korea. Not a chance.”

Grisham also published an op-ed together with her deputy Hogan Gidley attempting to back up her false claims.

“The Post could have written about the president’s directive to ease all federal student loan debt for disabled veterans,” Grisham and Gidley wrote in The Washington Examiner opinion piece, titled, “The Washington Post’s lost summer.” “It didn’t. It could have written about the first time in history a sitting United States president walked across the DMZ into North Korea. Not a chance.”

However, as Mediaite notes, The Washington Post “wrote about all of the subjects that Grisham and Gidley claim were not covered. The newspaper has covered the Trump administrations’s move to end the Flores agreementTrump reaching a trade agreement with Japan, and Trump’s move to give disabled veterans automatic forgiveness of their student loan debt.”

Mediaite add:

The Trump officials’ piece even links directly to The Washington Post’s coverage of Trump’s meeting with Kim Jong Un at the Korean demilitarized zone in their opinion piece, only to then immediately claim the newspaper didn’t write about it.

Vox’s Aaron Rupar tweeted: “This is a lie and it took all of 2 seconds and a single Google search to prove it.”

Lawfare’s Susan Hennessey writes: “The press secretary is lying here. She knows the Washington Post covered both of these stories. This is a cynical attempt to push a bunch of favorable news coverage by getting a bunch of people tweet about, link to, and write about those stories by way of showing she’s wrong.”
