White House Bans CNN Journalist Jim Acosta After Trump Calls Him ‘A Rude, Terrible Person’

The White House on Wednesday suspended CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta’s press credentials following a heated exchange with President Trump during a press conference earlier in the day.

Acosta engaged in a contentious back-and-forth with Trump after challenging his use of the word “invasion” to describe a migrant caravan of roughly 4,000 Central American immigrants who are walking through Mexico to claim asylum in the U.S.

“I think you should let me run the country and let you run CNN,” Trump lashed out at the journalist. “CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN.”

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders cited Acosta’s refusal to give the microphone to a young staffer who tried to take rip it out of his hand during a press conference.

Sanders said in a statement that the White House will “never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern. This conduct is absolutely unacceptable.”

“As a result of today’s incident, the White House is suspending the hard pass of the reporter involved until further notice,” Sanders said.

Acosta called Sanders’s tweeted statement “a lie.”

Acosta also said he was denied entrance to the White House.

“I’ve just been denied entrance to the WH. Secret Service just informed me I cannot enter the WH grounds for my 8pm hit,” Acosta tweeted.
