White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday refused to say whether President Donald Trump would accept the results of the presidential election in November.
“Is the president saying if he doesn’t win this election that he will not accept the results unless he wins?” a reporter asked McEnany.
She refused to directly answer the question, instead saying: “The president has always said he’ll see what happens and make a determination in the aftermath.”
Former GOP congressman Joe Walsh said the statement was “tantamount to an act of war by a President against his own country.”
This is tantamount to an act of war by a President against his own country. https://t.co/0OHHbWSlif

This is so scary. Trump doesn't get to decide if the election is free and fair. That's NOT his job. (& he would not be the first leader with autocratic proclivities to try to stay in power after losing an election. Remember Serbia 2000, Ukraine 2004, Malawi 2019, Belarus, 2000.) https://t.co/Bn2kbzMR0B

WH press sec won't directly say whether Trump will accept election results if he loses, saying “the President has always said he’ll see what happens and make a determination in the aftermath…. He wants a free election, a fair election, and he wants confidence in the results"

McEnany’s alarming response came a day after Trump declared his intent to run for office again in 2024, staying in office beyond the 8 years the U.S. Constitution allows for.
Trump’s declaration came less than 24 hours after he told his supporters at an event in Mankato, Minnesota: “We are going to win four more years. Then after that we’ll go another four years, because you know what, they spied on my campaign. We should get a redo of four years.”
The president on Tuesday told a crowd of supporters in Yuma, Arizona that he intends to shred the Constitution and serve at least 3 terms: “Considering we caught President Obama and sleepy Joe Biden spying on our campaign — treason — we’ll probably be entitled to another four more years.”
