The White House mistakenly referred to the Boston Red Sox as the “World Series Cup” champions in an email sent out following the team’s Thursday White House visit with President Trump.
The White House sent out a press release containing the gaffe shortly after the team was honored by Trump in a Rose Garden ceremony Thursday.

Inbox, from the White House:
"Remarks by President Trump Welcoming the 2018 World ***Cup*** Series Champions Boston Red Sox"
— Seung Min Kim (@seungminkim) May 9, 2019
The error came hours after an announcement Thursday morning, before the team’s visit, that misspelled the team name as “Boston Red Socks” instead of Sox.

The team’s manager Alex Cora and several players skipped the planned visit Thursday, with Cora citing Trump’s handling of the Hurricane Maria relief for Puerto Rico, where he was born.
Mookie Betts, David Price, Rafael Devers, Sandy Leon and Jackie Bradley Jr. are among the players who confirmed they would skip the celebration.
