The Senate Judiciary Committee began four days of hearings Monday on President Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.
While speaking at today’s hearing, GOP Sen. John Kennedy declared on Monday that “racist” is “one of the worst things you can call an American.”
“And I know, for someone unaccustomed to it, that it hurts to be called a racist,” Kennedy said. “I think it’s one of the worst things you can call an American.”

Twitter users immediately called out Kennedy’s claim by pointing out the racism Black Americans continue to face on a daily basis.
It hurts a lot more to have a racist cop kneeling on George Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. It kills. https://t.co/p4eG9ypROS

I've been called a nigger and then laugh at for getting offended. 😂 https://t.co/2HPFyRPQeA

Feel like there might be a few worse things that plenty of Americans have been called over the years https://t.co/YpXDr0HAnl

Ask black people if there's something worse than being called a "racist".
Hint: it starts with an "n".https://t.co/wrwkWrri6N
