A California woman was caught on camera screaming racist abuse at a mother and her young son, reports KTLA.
“What are you? He doesn’t even look human,” the Playa Vista resident yelled at Belinda Panelo after she parked on a public street so her son could get a coffee.
Panelo, 44, asked the woman if she was okay since she seemed to be going through some difficulties.
“Are you okay?” Panelo asked.
“No I’m not. We don’t want you here. This is our street. Leave us alone,” the woman responded.
“Are you alright?” Panelo asked again.
“We pay $10,000 a month to keep you out,” the woman, who has not been identified, responded.
She then allegedly asked what “mix” they were and called them “ugly, poor and subhuman.”
“You do not belong here,” she yelled at them.
“You’re trying to model the behavior that you want your child to– you’d hope that in a situation that your child would react in a respectful way, maintaining their dignity, but while still standing up for themselves,” Panelo told the news station.
Panelo told KCRA that she and her son talked about race and history when they returned home.
“I will not have one incident make me think that everybody who was in that neighborhood was like that. Because it’s not fair to generalize and we don’t know if someone is suffering. If, they have health issues,” she said.
