Twitter Reveals Russian Bots Retweeted Trump Nearly 500,000 Times In Last Months Of Election

Russian-linked Twitter bots retweeted Donald Trump’s tweets nearly half a million times during the final months of the 2016 election, Twitter Inc. said in a submission to Congress.

The company revealed to lawmakers on Thursday that the bots had retweeted Trump nearly 470,000 times from Sept. 1 to Nov. 15, 2016. The accounts retweeted Hillary Clinton less than 50,000 times during the same timeframe.

The documents are Twitter’s response to follow-up questions from the Senate committee following an Oct. 31 hearing on the issue of Russian infiltration manipulation of social-media platforms like Twitter, Facebook Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s YouTube during the election.
