Investigators for the Senate Intelligence Committee have interviewed several of the Russians who met with Donald Trump Jr. and other top Trump campaign officials at Trump Tower during the 2016 election after they promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton, according to CNN.
Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the committee’s chairman, didn’t specify which Russians were interviewed or how many had been interviewed, but said the committee was looking to interview everyone else “involved in the meeting before we know exactly what we want from Don Jr.”
This report comes after Donald Trump Jr. met with a Senate Judiciary Committee panel behind closed doors last month.
The Hill added:
The Intelligence Committee has already met with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who were both also present for the Trump Tower meeting.
Trump Jr. originally agreed to the meeting at Trump Tower last year, in which he was promised damaging information that “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father,” according to emails he released related to the meeting.
“This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” an intermediary wrote to Trump Jr.
“If it what’s you say I love it especially later in the summer,” Trump Jr. responded.
The lawyer mentioned in the emails, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was at the time lobbying for the removal of U.S. sanctions on Russia, which is at the center of the controversial Steele dossier.
