Trump Throws National Security Team Under The Bus, Defends Sharing Info With Russians On Twitter

President Trump on Tuesday defended revealing highly classified intelligence information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador during an Oval Office meeting last week, saying in a pair of early Tuesday morning tweets that he has an “absolute right” to do so.

Trump tweeted that he shared the highly classified “code word” information with the Russians for “humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russia to greatly step up their fight against ISIS & terrorism.”

“I have been asking Director Comey & others, from the beginning of my administration, to find the LEAKERS in the intelligence community,” he tweeted.

With his early morning tweets, Trump has thrown Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Deputy National Security Advisor Dina Powell, and National Security Adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster, under the bus after the White House trotted them out hours earlier to defend the President by issuing statements denying the Washington Post’s bombshell report.

McMaster on Monday night said The Post’s story “as reported, is false.”

“This story is false,” Powell said. “The president only discussed the common threats both countries faced.”
