President Donald Trump instructed Reuters correspondent Jeff Mason to remove his protective mask during a heated exchange at Tuesday’s rose garden event at the White House on protecting seniors, then mocked him when he refused to comply.
Mason began by asking Trump about his retweet appearing to mock Joe Biden for wearing a mask and his continued smearing of Joe Scarborough with debunked conspiracy theories.
In response to the first half, Trump said, “Biden can wear a mask, but he was standing outside with his wife — perfect conditions, perfect weather. Inside they don’t wear masks. So I thought it was very unusual that he had one on, but that was fine, I wasn’t criticizing him at all.”
“The second question was? I couldn’t hear you. Can you take it off because I cannot hear you?” Trump asked Mason.
“I’ll just speak louder sir,” Mason replies.
“You want to be politically correct,” the president mockingly replied.
“No. I just want to wear the mask,” Mason shot back, his mask in place.
