President Trump said during his 2020 reelection campaign kickoff speech on Tuesday that his administration is “getting closer” to curing cancer and “many diseases.”
“We will push onward with new medical frontiers,” Trump told an estimated crowd of 20,000 in Orlando, Fla. “We will come up with the cures to many, many problems, to many, many diseases — including cancer and others — and we’re getting closer all the time.”
Trump also made a campaign promise of eradicating AIDS “once and for all,” adding that “we’re very close.”

“We will lay the foundation for landing American astronauts on the surface of Mars,” Trump continued. “With every ounce of heart and might and sweat and soul, we’re going to keep making America great again and then we will indeed keep America great.”
“I can promise you that I will never, ever, ever let you down. I won’t,” he added.
Earlier this year, Trump floated a new conspiracy theory that alleges noise emitted by wind turbines “causes cancer.”
“Hillary wanted to put up wind,” Trump said as he kicked off an extended riff about the evils of windmills.
“If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value,” he claimed. “And they say the noise causes cancer”
He offered no evidence to support the claim.
Last week, former Vice President Joe Biden, whose son Beau Biden died of brain cancer in 2015, said his administration would tackle curing cancer should he be elected.
“I’ve worked so hard in my career that I promise you, if I’m elected president, you’re going to see the single most important thing that changes America: We’re going to cure cancer,” Biden said during a campaign event in Iowa.
Donald Trump Jr. mocked Biden for saying he planned to cure cancer as president at his father’s rally in Orlando.
“What was the good one last week? Remember? Joe Biden comes out, ‘Well, if you elect me president, I’m going to cure cancer,'” Trump Jr. said just before his father made the same vow. “Wow, why the hell didn’t you do that over the last 50 years, Joe?”
