“As the head of the executive branch and the commander in chief, I have a unique constitutional responsibility to protect the nation’s classified information, including by controlling access to it,” Trump said in a statement, read by Sanders at Wednesday’s press briefing.
Trump also said he is currently reviewing access to classified information for several former intelligence officials, including James Clapper, James Comey, Michael Hayden, Sally Yates, Susan Rice, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Bruce Ohr.
Each of them has made statements critical of Trump in the past.
On Tuesday, Brennan ripped into president Trump for calling former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman, the only African-American to have served in a senior role in the White House, a “dog.”
“It’s astounding how often you fail to live up to minimum standards of decency, civility, & probity. Seems like you will never understand what it means to be president, nor what it takes to be a good, decent, & honest person. So disheartening, so dangerous for our Nation,” Brennan tweeted on Tuesday.

Breaking: DNI Coats – the nation’s senior-most Intelligence official – was NOT consulted on Trump decision to revoke Fmr CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance – a source with knowledge tells me.

This is crazy and sets a dangerous precedent. Donald Trump is using his official presidential power to punish people who criticize him—particularly those who criticize him on television. https://t.co/cwvBNlH4DP
