Trump Praises NY Protesters, Including One Holding ‘Hang Fauci, Hang Gates’ Sign, As ‘Great People’

President Trump voiced his support this weekend for a protest against New York state’s public health orders that was backed by an anti-government militia and anti-cine activists who called for the execution of the nation’s top infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, and Bill Gates, a billionaire philanthropist donating funds to aid coronavirus research and issuing warnings about the pandemic, reports The Hill.

A protester who participated in Thursday’s “Re-Open NY” rally that was praised by the president was seen holding up a sign reading “Hang Fauci, Hang Gates, Open up all our states.”

The Huffington Post was first to note the disturbing sign in a story it wrote that was based on reporting at the scene by News 12 Long Island journalist Kevin Vesey, who captured the images of the sign at the rally held last week on Long Island.

Vesey tweeted about his harrowing experience at the protest, where demonstrators berated and harassed him. Vesey called the anger directed at him “alarming.”

One maskless protester in a Trump T-shirt and MAGA hat deliberately invaded his social distancing space as Vesey pleaded with him to back away.

“I was insulted. I was berated. I was practically chased by people who refused to wear masks in the middle of a pandemic,” Vesey tweeted.

Trump on Thursday tweeted in response to one of Vesey’s posts: “FAKE NEWS IS NOT ESSENTIAL.”

On Saturday, Trump again tweeted about Vesey’s viral video, declaring of the protesters: “Great people!” Trump added: “People can’t get enough of this.”
