Trump Mocked For Saying Wall Worked In San Antonio, A City With No Wall 150 Miles North Of Border

While addressing reporters ahead of a special announcement Saturday on the partial government shutdown and border wall funding, President Trump cited San Antonio as a city that had its crime problem solved after getting a border wall.

“Everybody knows that walls work,” Trump said. “You look at different places they put up a wall, no problem. You look at San Antonio, you look at so many different places. They go from one of the most unsafe cities in the country to one of the safest cities, immediately.”

One major problem with Trump’s claim: San Antonio, in Texas, is located 157 miles from the border with Mexico. It also does not have a border wall.

San Antonio’s congressman, Republican Will Hurd, has repeatedly dismissed Trump’s wall as pointless.

Hurd recently called the president’s border crisis a “myth” and said a border wall is “the most expensive and least effective way to do border security.”

The only wall of any notoriety in San Antonio’s history are the walls of the Alamo. And unfortunately, those didn’t work out too well for us last time.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said Saturday that his city is indeed one of the safest’s cities in the U.S.

“San Antonio is one of the safest big cities in the nation,” Nirenberg said. “The Express-News reported last year that crime is at a 30-year low here. The plummeting crime rate is due to the hard work being done by the brave men and women of the San Antonio Police Department.”

Texans took to Twitter to brutally mock the president’s fake news:
