Trump Lashes Out At His Handpicked FBI Director For Telling The Truth About The IG Report

President Trump took to Twitter Tuesday morning to lash out at FBI Director Christopher Wray, attacking his characterization of a newly released Justice Department inspector general’s report on the Russia investigation.

“I don’t know what report current Director of the FBI Christopher Wray was reading, but it sure wasn’t the one given to me,” Trump said, a day after the report’s release.

“With that kind of attitude, he will never be able to fix the FBI, which is badly broken despite having some of the greatest men & women working there!” Trump added.

In the report, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz found that FBI agents who worked on the original Russian interference investigation were not motivated by political bias — undercutting a key talking point of the president and his Republican allies. Horowitz also said the investigation was adequately predicated.

“The Inspector General did not find political bias or improper motivations impacting the opening of the investigation [into the Trump campaign], or the decision to use certain investigative tools during the investigation,” Wray said on Monday.

Wray went on to acknowledge that the report wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for his bureau, adding, “The Inspector General did find a number of instances where employees either failed to follow our policies, neglected to exercise appropriate diligence, or in some other way fell short of the standard of conduct and performance that we and that I as director expect of all of our employees.”

In the same interview, Wray swatted down Trump’s conspiracy theories about Ukraine — not Russia — being behind election interference, saying “we have no information that Ukraine interference with the 2016 presidential election.”
