During a roundtable discussion with African American supporters and leaders on Thursday, President Trump claimed to have witnessed a group of people “trying to break into a church” during the pandemic.
“Now we’re opening up again,” Trump, who refused to wear a face mask during the meeting, told the roundtable members. “We are going to open our churches again. CDC is going to put out something very soon.”
“I spoke to them today,” he said. “I think they are going to put something out very soon. We gotta open up our churches.”
“People want to go in. I saw a scene today where people were trying to break into a church – to go into the church. Not to break in to steal something – to break in – they want to be in their church,” he claimed.
“I said [to the CDC]. ‘you better put it out,'” Trump said. “And they are doing it and they are going to be issuing something today or tomorrow on churches. We are going to get our churches open.”
It is unclear what church break-in the president was referring to.
