During a meeting with a legal scholar, President Trump joked that Vice President Mike Pence “wants to hang” all gay people, according to a bombshell New Yorker report.
Trump made the joke about Pence after a legal scholar told the pair that if the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, many states would probably legalize abortion.
“You see?” Trump said to Pence. “You’ve wasted all this time and energy on it, and it’s not going to end abortion anyway.”
When the conversation turned to gay rights, Trump reportedly pointed to Pence, joking, “Don’t ask that guy — he wants to hang them all!”
According to a Trump campaign staffer, the president asks people leaving meetings with Pence, “Did Mike make you pray?”
One source tells the New Yorker that the president likes to “let Pence know who’s boss.”
In 2006, Pence supported an amendment to the Indiana constitution that would have defined marriage as between one man and one woman.
He also said at the time that legalizing gay marriage would cause a “societal collapse.”
In 2015 he signed SB 101, a broad religious freedom law that allows businesses in Indiana to deny services to LGBT people.
Back in 2000, Pence suggested funds from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program should go to organizations “which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.”
Last week, Trump became the first sitting President to address the Family Research Council’s Value Voters Summit, a group that has been certified a “hate group” by The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Tony Perkins, the president of the extremist Family Research Council, has compared gays to pedophiles, insisted that gays will attempt a ‘Christian Holocaust,’ and defended Uganda’s “kill-the-gays” bill as a “laudable” effort “to uphold moral conduct.”
The president, who during the 2016 campaign painted himself as a friend to the LGBT community, told guests he was “honored and thrilled” to speak at “this incredible gathering of friends, so many friends.”
The event’s organizers distributed gift bags to attendees of the event, which included a leaflet promoting a book entitled ‘The Hazards of Homosexuality.’

The leaflet reads: “The sexual revolution and mainstreaming of homosexuality have created a public health crisis affecting us all. But the media give little attention to the danger of gay and lesbian sexual practices and the resulting health problems experienced by the gay-lesbian-bisexual population.”
“Worse, the medical authorities deliver mixed messages to those at high risk while failing to protect the broader public.”

“Homosexual and bisexual men are most severely affected and are driving the recent increases in STDs. Lesbians, heterosexuals and youth are increasingly at risk by imitating dangerous ‘gay’ practices.”
“The book brings together widely dispersed facts, carefully documenting the disproportionate incidence of disease and mental disorders in the GLB community. A brief survey of the “transgender” phenomenon is included.”
Topics explored in the book include, “Why homosexuality is a public health issue, and not just a private issue”; “The mental health issues: depression, anxiety, suicidality, substance use, partner abuse, and BDSM (bondage/sexual sadomasochism)”; “Why homosexuals have shortened lifespans, chronic conditions, lower quality of life”; “The psychological and medical issues of transgenderism”; and “Child abuse: interventions supporting ‘transgender’ identities in youth.”
The book is authored by “MassResistance,” a longtime ant-LGBT group based in Massachusetts that has praised laws criminalizing gay sex.
“Given that the Values Voter Summit is a conference of fringe extremists with a viciously anti-LGBTQ agenda, it is not surprising that unequivocally false and baseless materials like this are appearing there,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, president & CEO of LGBT media monitoring group GLAAD.
“MassResistance is an identified hate group and Trump becoming the first sitting president to address this event is the latest example of a clear and distributing pattern of using the presidency of the United States to promote and normalize hate speech,” she said.
