Just hours after President Trump repeated his absurd claim that he had never called the White Supremacist and Neo-Nazi protesters who descended on Charlottesville in 2017 “very fine people,” a White Supremacist walked into a synagogue in California and opened fire, killing one and wounding three others.
During an appeared Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to discuss the Poway, California, synagogue shooting, former FBI counterintelligence agent Clint Watts ripped into the Trump administration’s refusal to pre-emptively respond to the growing threat of white nationalist domestic terrorism as the death toll climbs.
“What we do is wait for an attack right now, we go and see the damage and act like, ‘Oh, it’s just some bad apple,’” Watts said. “These are not bad apples, in fact, they know each other. They’re inspired each other and the pace has quickened.”
“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough, who has recently placed on a “kill list” by a white nationalist Coast Guard officer, said the Trump administration, including his Attorney General William Barr, has done “nothing” to combat this domestic threat.
Prosecutors accused Coast Guard lieutenant Christopher Hasson of plotting a domestic terror attack inspired by Norwegian extremist Anders Brevik and had a hit list targets, including Joe Scarborough and other frequent targets of President Trump. After Barr’s DOJ failed to bring terrorism charges against Hasson, a judge ruled last week that he was entitled to be released from custody before his trial on firearms and drug charges.
“Clint, you tell me, why isn’t Barr bringing charges so a judge who is afraid of Hasson, afraid that he’ll commit acts of violence when he is released, why aren’t they charging him?” Scarborough asked, referring
“There’s no good reason. The only reason is international terrorists don’t vote, and domestic terrorists do vote,” Watts explained.
