During an impromptu press conference on the White House lawn Tuesday, President Trump pulled waved a folded piece of paper at reporters, claiming it contained the details of the secret component to the migration deal with Mexico that will be revealed “in the not too distant future,” even as Mexico’s foreign minister says his country has no idea what he is talking about.
Mexico’s Foreign Affairs Minister Marcelo Ebrard on Monday said there were no undisclosed parts of the U.S.- Mexico deal.
“Outside of what I have just explained, there is no agreement,” Ebrard said at a morning press conference. “It is an immigration agreement, not a commercial one.”
Earlier on Twitter, Trump said, “Biggest part of deal with Mexico has not yet been revealed!”
As he prepared to fly to Iowa, Trump told White House reporters he was eager to show them what is on the paper but said he has to wait for the Mexican administration to announce it.
“That’s the agreement that everybody says I don’t have,” the president said, waving the paper.
“No, because I’m going to let Mexico do the announcement at the right time,” Trump told reporters when asked if he could read the contents of the paper.
“Here’s the agreement, it’s a very simple agreement,” the president said continuing to wave the paper in the air.
“This is one page of a very long and very good agreement from Mexico and the United States. Without the tariffs, we would have had nothing,” he continued.
“So here’s your thing,” Trump told reporters as he again pulled the paper from his breast pocket. “You know they all say, ‘oh he doesn’t.’ I just give you my word. Inside here, and I would love to do it but you will freeze action it, you will stop it, you will analyze it. Every single letter you’ll see. But in here, is the agreement.”
President Trump held up a folded piece of paper and said it was the agreement the White House recently made with Mexico to avoid his promised 5% tariffs on Mexican goods.
