President Trump has reportedly nicknamed his embattled Attorney General Jeff Sessions “Mr. Magoo,” and compares him to the elderly, myopic and bumbling cartoon character in private meetings, reports The Washington Post.
The Post reports that the president has told associates that he has always hired the best lawyers for his entire life, but “is stuck with Sessions, who is not defending him and is not sufficiently loyal.”
The Post adds:
While Sessions has told associates he had been wounded by the attacks, he has also insisted he’s not going to resign, so the cold war continues.
On the anniversary of Sessions’ confirmation earlier this month, senior aides decided to buy Sessions a bulletproof vest with his name emblazoned on it as a gift, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Trump has repeatedly attacked his attorney general over his decision to recuse himself from the investigation into Russian election interference.
Trump on Wednesday attacked Sessions on Twitter, saying it was “disgraceful” that the attorney general has asked the Justice Department’s inspector general rather than DOJ lawyers to investigate potential abuses by the FBI on surveillance warrants.
Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!

Sessions fired back hours later, saying he would “continue to discharge my duties with integrity and honor, and this Department will continue to do its work in a fair and impartial manner according to the law and Constitution.”
