President Trump on Tuesday hit back at London Mayor Sadiq Khan after the British politician criticized him for playing a round of golf while millions of U.S. east coast residents prepared for Hurricane Dorian’s arrival.
Trump defended his time spent golfing in a pair of tweets, arguing that his golfing is nearly identical to politicians who spend “hours” exercising or traveling.
“The incompetent Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was bothered that I played a very fast round of golf yesterday,” Trump tweeted, originally misspelling the mayor’s name before correcting himself.
“Many Pols exercise for hours, or travel for weeks. Me, I run through one of my courses (very inexpensive),” Trump tweeted.
“President Obama would fly to Hawaii. Kahn should focus on ‘knife crime,’ which is totally out of control in London. People are afraid to even walk the streets. He is a terrible mayor who should stay out of our business!” he added.

Khan traveled to Poland over the weekend to mark the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II.
Trump announced last week that he would remain in Washington to monitor Hurricane Dorian instead of traveling to Poland to attend the ceremony.
“He’s clearly busy dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course,” Khan told Politico on Sunday.
The Hill notes:
Trump took a helicopter from Camp David to his Sterling, Va., golf club on Saturday, where he spent much of the morning and part of the afternoon before receiving a briefing on Dorian.
The president received another hurricane briefing on Sunday before returning to his golf club on Monday, where CNN cameras captured him playing in a foursome.
Trump told Reuters last year that he gets plenty of exercise on the golf course and at the White House complex.
“I get exercise. I mean I walk, I this, I that,” Trump said during an Oval Office interview. “I run over to a building next door. I get more exercise than people think.”
“A lot of people go to the gym and they’ll work out for two hours and all. I’ve seen people … then they get their new knees when they’re 55 years old and they get their new hips and they do all those things. I don’t have those problems,” Trump said.
Trump then explained that he typically rides around the course in a golf cart because walking would leave him on the golf course longer than he prefers, he said. “I don’t want to spend the time.”
