President Donald Trump on Tuesday continued his fourth day of racist attacks targeting Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and the “corrupt” city of Baltimore, claiming that thousands of the city’s residents, which he said are “living in hell,” secretly agree with him and are flooding the White House switchboard to personally thank him for attacking their city as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”
Speaking to reporters as he left the White House, Trump declared himself “the least racist person there is anywhere in the world.”
Without citing specifics, Trump said that he has “received more phone calls” than on any other issue previously from Baltimore residents who have expressed gratitude for his comments.
“They’re largely African-American…They really appreciate what I’m doing and they’ve let me know it,” the president said.
Trump also claimed that the city’s residents are “living in hell.”
“Those people are living in hell in Baltimore,” Trump added.
“What I’ve done for African Americans, no president, I would say, has done,” Trump insisted.
“Now, I’ll say this. They are so happy, because I get the calls. They are so happy at what I’ve been able to do in Baltimore and other Democratic run corrupt cities. The money has been stolen. What they’ve done, it’s been wasted and it’s been stolen, billions and billions of dollars,” Trump told reporters. “And the African-American community is so thankful. They call me and they say, ‘Finally, somebody is telling the truth.’”
Trump added, according to the transcript, “[T]he African-American people have been calling the White House. They have never been so happy.”
“They are happy as hell,” he added.

Trump had a 6 percent job approval rating among African American voters in a Quinnipiac poll released on Monday.
According to the Washington Post:
After misleadingly calling Baltimore’s statistics “the worst in the United States on Crime and the Economy,” Trump suggested that the city had wasted aid.
“Billions of dollars have been pumped in over the years, but to no avail,” Trump tweeted. “The money was stolen or wasted. Ask Elijah E. Cummings where it went. He should investigate himself with his Oversight Committee!”
