Trump Brags His Border Fence Will Be Harder To Climb Than The 29,000 ft Tall Mt. Everest

President Trump on Wednesday told a joint conference of the Major County Sheriffs and Major Cities Chiefs Association that his long-promised border wall structure will be harder to scale than the world’s tallest mountain above sea level.

“I can promise you this: I will never waver from my sacred duty to defend this nation and its people. We will get the job done,” Trump said.

“The wall is very, very on its way,” he continued. As NBC News notes: “no new wall is currently under construction”

He continued: “And it’s a big wall. It’s a strong wall, and it’s a wall that people aren’t going through very easily. You’d have to be in extremely good shape to get over this one. They would be able to climb Mt. Everest a lot easier, I think. But it’s happening.” Mt. Everest is just over 29,000 feet above sea level.

Trump made the remarks as Congress is considering a Homeland Security spending bill that would provide for the construction of about 55 miles of new steel fencing and avert a partial federal government shutdown at the end of the week

NBC News notes:

The text of the legislation under consideration on Capitol Hill still has not yet been released, but it would provide nearly $1.4 billion for 55 miles of new fencing — less than the $1.6 billion for 65 miles of new fencing that the Senate approved late last year before a 35-day government shutdown.
