President Donald Trump recently claimed that protesters have been hurling “big bags of soup” at police which he claims are “worse than a brick.”
During a campaign rally in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, Trump added to his false claim, telling his supporters that in addition to the bags of soup, protesters were pelting police with cans of “Bumble Bee brand tuna.”
“Rocks and cans of tuna fish,” Trump told the crowd. “They go out and buy tuna fish and soup. You know that, right? Goya, I hope Goya. He’s great. Because they throw it.”
“It’s the perfect weight, tuna fish, they can really rip it, right?” Trump added. “And that hits you. No, it’s true. Bumble Bee brand tuna.”
“And you can throw that, you can put a curve on it. You can do whatever the hell you want. And the cops in chicago…they’re not allowed to fight back,” Trump claimed.

In July Trump claimed that when these alleged protesters were caught carrying “bags of soup,” they would say, “No, this is soup for my family.”
“And then they have cans of soup. Soup. And they throw the cans of soup. That’s better than a brick because you can’t throw a brick; it’s too heavy. But a can of soup, you can really put some power into that, right?” Trump said according to the White House’s own transcript of Trump’s July 31 remarks.
“And then, when they get caught, they say, ‘No, this is soup for my family.’ They’re so innocent. ‘This is soup for my family.’ It’s incredible. And you have people coming over with bags of soup — big bags of soup. And they lay it on the ground, and the anarchists take it and they start throwing it at our cops, at our police. And if it hits you, that’s worse than a brick because that’s got force. It’s the perfect size. It’s, like, made perfect.”
“And when they get caught, they say, ‘No, this is just soup for my family.’ And then the media says, ‘This is just soup. These people are very, very innocent. They’re innocent people. These are just protesters. Isn’t it wonderful to allow protesting?’ No, there’s — and, by the way, the media knows it better than we do. They know what’s going on. I don’t know what’s wrong with them. They’re doing our country a tremendous disservice — I’ll say that.”
I'm sorry. I've been laughing about this nonstop. I can't stop. 😭pic.twitter.com/8IAihng3vv
