Trump Attacks Desperate Puerto Ricans From His Golf Club: ‘They Want Everything To Be Done For Them’

President Trump accused Puerto Rican workers of not helping relief efforts on the hurricane-ravaged island, some who have lost everything, saying “they want everything to be done for them,” and insisting federal workers are doing a “fantastic job.”

In a series of early-morning tweets, Trump blasted the “poor leadership ability” of the mayor of San Juan and “others in Puerto Rico” following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

“Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help,” Trump said. “They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job.”

The Trump administration placed Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan in charge of the military relief operations Thursday, but even he acknowledged on Friday that the Defense Department has not sent enough troops and vehicles to the island.

The inadequate response to the category 4 hurricane was the focal point of San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz’s Friday press conference in which she begged: “anyone that can hear us to save us from dying.”

“The world will see how we are treated — not as second-class citizens, but as animals that can be disposed of,” said Cruz, just moments after President Trump again congratulated himself for his handling of the federal response in Puerto Rico.

“Enough is enough,” said Cruz.

“I am going to do what I never thought I would do. I am begging, begging anyone who can hear us to save us from dying,” she said. “We are dying and you are killing us with the inefficiency.”

In response to Trump’s attacks on Puerto Ricans, Twitter users shared photos of San Juan’s mayor who risked her own life to reach her desperate citizens:
