President Donald Trump on Tuesday again floated the idea of investigating a 2017 book deal signed by former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama.
While speaking to workers at a Shell petrochemical plant in Monaca, Pa., Trump said, “Now nobody ever looks at Obama getting $60 million dollars for a book. That’s okay.”
“Even though nobody in history ever got that much for a book,” Trump added, leaving out that it was a book deal signed by both President Obama and Michelle Obama.
In an angry oval office rant last month, Trump lashed out at probes into his 2016 campaign and Russian election interference, suggesting that investigators should open a probe into the Obama book deal.
“They want to investigate, they want to go fishing and I watched Bob Mueller and they have nothing,” Trump said of Democrats.
“It’s a disgrace,” he continued. “We want to find out what happened the last Democrat president. Let’s look into Obama the way they’ve looked into me. From day one they’ve looked into everything we’ve done.”
“They could look into the book deal that President Obama made. Let’s subpoena all of his records,” Trump continued. “Let’s subpoena all of the records having to do with Hillary Clinton and all of the nonsense that went on with Clinton and her foundation and everything else.”
Trump did not elaborate or offer any evidence to reporters about why a probe would be warranted.

Nicolle Wallace on Wednesday played a clip of Trump calling for the probe while summing up the state of the nation, “World is on fire and Trump is musing publicly about his poll numbers in battleground states, his love of umbrellas and trucks and President Obama’s book deal.”
