Trump Accepts Resignation Of Scandal-Plagued EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt

Scott Pruitt has resigned from his position leading the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Thursday, following months of high-profile controversies regarding his spending, ethics and management at the agency.

“I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency,” President Trump announced in a tweet. “Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this. The Senate confirmed Deputy at EPA, Andrew Wheeler, will on Monday assume duties as the acting Administrator of the EPA. I have no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda. We have made tremendous progress and the future of the EPA is very bright!”

Wheeler, who the Senate confirmed in April to be deputy administrator at the EPA, will become acting administrator when Pruitt leaves next week.

Pruitt has come under fire over a growing list of ethics questions about his alleged spending abuses, including the rental of a Capitol Hill condo owned by the wife of an influential lobbyist and enlisting aides to reach out to the chief executive of Chick-fil-A, Dan T. Cathy, with the intent of helping Pruitt’s wife, Marlyn, open franchise of the restaurant.

He is currently facing more than a federal dozen investigations over the controversies.

A teacher confronted Pruitt while he was eating lunch on Monday, reading him a list of reasons he should consider resigning from his post.

“EPA head Scott Pruitt was 3 tables away as I ate lunch with my child. I had to say something,” Kristin Mink wrote on Facebook as she shared a video of her encounter with Pruitt.

Minka, who is a schoolteacher, read a list of multiple scandals Pruitt has been ensnared in during his short tenure at the EPA

“We deserve to have somebody at the EPA who actually does protect our environment, someone who believes in climate change and takes it seriously for the benefit of all us, including our children,” Minka said.

“I would urge you to resign before your scandals push you out.”
