Trump Abruptly Fires Natl. Security Advisor John Bolton On Twitter

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he had fired national security advisor John Bolton, saying he had “disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions.”

“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House,” Trump announced in a tweet. “I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning.”

“I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week,” Trump added.

Bolton’s firing comes amid internal disagreements at the White House over recent negotiations with the Taliban on bringing the 18-year war in Afghanistan to an end. Trump said Monday that those talks are “dead.”

Bolton, appointed in March 2018, was Trump’s third national security advisor.
