Venture capitalist Elliott Broidy has resigned as the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) deputy finance chairman after admitting he paid $1.6 million to a Playboy “playmate” that he impregnated, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
The Journal revealed that President Trump‘s personal attorney Michael Cohen helped negotiate a $1.6 million payment to the Playboy model in 2017.
Broidy confirmed the affair, admitting that he “offered to help her financially” after she told him “she did not want to continue with the pregnancy.”
The Hill added:
The news comes days after the FBI raided an office and other locations belonging to Cohen, acting in part on a referral from Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and allegations of collusion by associates of President Trump.
Multiple reports say that the raid sought, in part, records relating to payments made to women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump.
Broidy is the second RNC Finance Committee member to resign in recent months, following Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn, who resigned amid allegations that he’d sexually harassed women who’d worked for him.
