Thousands Of Peaceful Protesters Flood Pittsburgh Streets To Denounce Trump’s Visit As Funerals Begin

Thousands of Pittsburgh residents took to the streets on Tuesday to peacefully protest President Trump’s visit to the city following a shooting at Tree of Life Synagogue that left 11 people dead.

CNN’s Miguel Marquez noted how “how big” and “how quickly” the protest grew upon Trump’s arrival.

“It’s a huge embarrassment for the president of the United States to be going to Pittsburgh this afternoon and not be greeted by the mayor, not be greeted by the governor, not be greeted by the key local officials who are attending to this tragedy in their own city,” noted Washington Post reporter Phil Rucker.

“He made such a big deal about President Obama going overseas when sometimes the red carpet wasn’t rolled out to him,” Rucker said on MSNBC. “He’s now going to Pittsburgh without any carpet at all.”

He added that the visit was likely an effort by Trump to “go through the motions of being a consoler-in-chief” because empathy is not a natural emotion for the president.
