Attorney General Jeff Sessions warned the White House recently that he could resign if President Trump were to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who currently oversees the law enforcement investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, The Washington Post reported Friday.
Sessions reportedly told White House counsel Don McGahn in a phone call last weekend that he could leave his post at the Justice Department in the event of Rosenstein’s ouster.
Trump has repeatedly attacked Rosenstein and special counsel Robert Mueller following the FBI raid of the home and office of his personal attorney Michael Cohen.
The attacks have led to speculation that Trump may soon fire Rosenstein or Mueller.
Trump has repeatedly Sessions, largely over his decision to recuse himself from the investigation into Russia’s election interference.
The Post reported in February, that the president refers Sessions “Mr. Magoo,” the bumbling cartoon character who lands in comic situations largely due to his severe near-sightedness.
