Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) said on Friday that he expects special counsel Robert Mueller to depose President Trump as part of his investigation into Russian election meddling and potential ties to the Trump campaign.
“I would expect at some point, not right away, but at some point, that Mr. Mueller would feel he has to depose the president,” Reed told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
The senator’s comments come after Trump accused ousted FBI Director James Comey of lying during his testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday.
Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication…and WOW, Comey is a leaker!

Reed went on to say he thinks Trump will ultimately have to testify under oath that Comey was lying during his testimony.
“I think that’s ultimately what will happen, because in the course of these investigations, but in particularly with special prosecutor Mueller, since part of this, which was indicated yesterday, goes to the rationale for the firing behind Mr. Comey, and the rationale of trying to deflect, if not stop, the investigation of Gen. [former national security adviser Michael] Flynn involves to some degree the president,” the Democrat said.
Trump told NBC’s Lester Holt in May that he had “this Russia thing on his mind” when he fired Comey last month.
“And, in fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won,’ ” the president said.
Comey said during his testimony that he takes the president “at his word that I was fired because of the Russia investigation.”
