Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) on Monday put Americans on ‘red alert’ with an ominous warning that President Donald Trump was “quietly” starting a war against Syria without Congressional approval.

The senator was responding to reports that Russia said it would treat U.S. jets in Syrian airspace as “targets” after an American American F/A-18 jet shot down a Syrian fighter jet on Sunday.

Murphy’s tweet noted that this was the fourth direct engagement Trump has taken in Syria in less than two months and accused the president of “starting a new war that Congress has not declared.”
