Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) says there has never been a president “who has lied as often or as dangerously” as President Trump has.
“When the president of the United States lies a whole lot and makes outrageous statements, it’s not only bad unto itself, but it also opens the door for other people to be lying and for truth to be disrespected,” Sanders told Vox in an interview Wednesday.
“And that is a very dangerous thing for the fabric of American society.”
Sanders said there’s never been a president before Trump who has said everything you see on mainstream media “is a lie.”
He added that on top of his “unprecedented attack on the media,” Trump is regularly attacking the independent judiciary.
“I can’t remember a president who has had more authoritarian tendencies than Trump,” Sanders said. “What is going on is not only this rise of authoritarianism but also, simultaneously, you are seeing this country move very rapidly toward oligarchy.”
Earlier this week, the Washington Post reported that in President Trump’s first 151 days in office, he had made a total of 669 false and misleading claims.
That means on average, he’s lying and or misleading the public over 4 times a day.
