President Trump and Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) spent Tuesday morning exchanging escalating insults on Twitter and television.
In a series of television interviews, Sen. Bob Corker responded to the president’s attacks on his physical appearance, accusing the president of being a serial liar, adding that he debased the US and weakened its global standing.
“He is purposely breaking down relationships we have around the world that had been useful to our nation,” Corker said on CNN after Trump criticised him on Twitter.
“I think the debasement of our nation is what he’ll be remembered most for,” he said.
The Tennessee lawmaker who heads the Foreign Relations Committee added that the president has “great difficulty with truth”.
In response to the feud, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) joked with reporters Tuesday that he was bringing popcorn to watch the whole thing unfold in person at a Senate GOP lunch.
Tillis tweeted a photo of himself getting popcorn out of a machine, with the caption, “Ready for lunch with POTUS and @SenateGOP.”
