Republican Lawmaker Who Blamed Dayton Shooting On Gays Refuses To Resign

Ohio lawmaker Candice Keller, who blamed this weekend’s mass shootings on gay marriage, “drag queen advocates,” violent video games and “fatherlessness,” stuck by her controversial remarks as leaders of her own political party called for her to resign.

Ohio Republican Party chairwoman Jane Murphy Timken called on GOP state Rep. Keller to resign after she posted a lengthy rant on social media blaming the deaths of more than 30 people on a list of reasons that failed to acknowledge white supremacy and easy access to weapons of war.

“While our nation was in utter shock over the acts of violence in El Paso and Dayton, Republican State Representative Candice Keller took to social media to state why she thought these acts were happening. Candice Keller’s Facebook post was shocking and utterly unjustifiable,” Timken said in a statement.

“Our nation is reeling from these senseless acts of violence and public servants should be working to bring our communities together, not promoting divisiveness. I’m calling on Candice Keller to resign,” Timken added.

Keller in a statement to the Cincinnati Enquirer rejected Timken’s request, saying she plans to stay in office and to continue a run for state Senate.

“Establishment moderates have never been fans of mine because I ran against their endorsement and won,” Keller said. “As the only conservative in this race, I will be taking my Senate campaign to the voters to decide.”

“Why not place the blame where it belongs,” Keller wrote in a since-deleted post. “The breakdown of the traditional American family(thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates); fatherlessness, a subject no one discusses or believes is relevant; the ignoring of violent video games; the relaxing of laws against criminals(open borders); the acceptance of recreational marijuana; failed school policies (hello, parents who defend misbehaving students): disrespect to law enforcement (thank you, Obama), hatred of our veterans (thank you professional athletes who hate our flag and National Anthem); the Dem Congress; many members whom are openly anti-Semitic; the culture, which totally ignores the importance of God and the church (until they elect a president); state officeholders, who have no interest whatsoever in learning about out Constitution and the Second Amendment; and snowflakes, who can’t respect a duly-elected President.”

“Did I forget anybody,” the post concludes. “The list is long. And the fury will continue.”

Pro-Trump Sheriff Richard Jones has also called for Keller to resign.

“She’s made a laughingstock out of Butler County, which is a shame,” he said.
