As the partial U.S. government shutdown over border wall funding entered its tenth day on Monday, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to claim that he was sitting inside the Oval Office waiting for Democrats to “come back from vacation” to make a deal with him to fund his proposed border wall that he pledged to make Mexico pay for.
“I’m in the Oval Office,” the president wrote on New Year’s Eve. “Democrats, come back from vacation now and give us the votes necessary for Border Security, including the Wall.”
I’m in the Oval Office. Democrats, come back from vacation now and give us the votes necessary for Border Security, including the Wall. You voted yes in 2006 and 2013. One more yes, but with me in office, I’ll get it built, and Fast!

However, Playboy White House correspondent Brian Karem fired back at Trump on Twitter for blatantly lying about being in the Oval Office, CBS News reports.
Karem, who was at the White House on Monday, said he noticed that there was currently no Marine sentry standing guard outside the Oval Office door when Trump issued the tweet.
As USA Today notes:
If you’re ever at the White House and want to know if the president is at work, there’s an easy way to tell. If a Marine sentry is at the door of the West Wing, the president is inside.
“POTUS tweet minutes ago claimed he was in the Oval Office. No marine there so that’s another lie. ,” Karem tweeted.
