Rep. Ted Lieu Calls Trump ‘A Racist Ass’ On Live TV After Racist Tweetstorm

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) on Sunday called President Donald Trump a “racist ass” during a live interview on MSNBC after he was asked about the president’s tweet calling for a group of progressive congresswomen to go back to the “totally broken and crime infested places” they came from.

“As an immigrant myself, I know that when we came to America, we were poor,” Lieu said. “My parents went to flee markets to sell gifts to make ends meet, and eventually they opened a successful small business and achieved the American dream. It’s one of the reasons I joined the Air Force and active duty.”

“I never thought I’d see the day when a president was telling immigrants to go back to where they came from,” the congressman lamented. “He’s demonstrating he’s a racist ass. He’s not uniting us.”

Lieu had also called Trump a “racist ass” in an early morning tweet.

“Hey @realDonaldTrump: What makes America exceptional is we are a nation of immigrants. As an immigrant who served on active duty, I am appalled you are telling us to ‘go back,'” Lieu tweeted. “I’m not going back. America is our home. And I will still be in Congress after your racist ass leaves.”

Lieu also told MSNBC that Trump is “becoming increasingly more and more unhinged as he sees things are going against him.”

“He has not been able to build his wall or make the border situation any better and now he’s trying to do other things to amp up his base,” Lieu remarked. “He doesn’t understand most Americans are immigrants or have family members who are immigrants.”

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” Trump said in an early morning string of tweets.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done,” he added. “These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [D-Calif.] would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

Trump’s tweets did not identify any members of Congress by name, but the tweets came after he defended Speaker Nancy Pelosi amid tensions with four progressive freshman Democrats: Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.). All of the four except Omar, who is a U.S. citizen, were born in the United States.
