A majority of President Trump’s supporters say they agree with Trump’s claim that the media is “the enemy of the American people,” according to a newly released poll from YouGov.
More than 60 percent of “Trump approvers” said they agreed with the statement, while just about 15 percent of “Trump disapprovers” said they agreed with it.
According to the data, 74 percent of Democrats or those who lean Democratic said they have a “great deal” or “a fair amount” of confidence in the press, a 23-point increase from last year.
Only 19 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents said they have a “great deal” or “a fair amount” of confidence in the press.
In February, President Trump charged that the media aren’t an enemy of the White House but an adversary of the American people.
“The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @CNN, @NBCNews and many more) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American people. SICK!” Trump tweeted.
Trump deleted the original tweet and issued a revised tweet 16 minutes later to include more news organizations in his category of so-called fake news: ABC and CBS.
“The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!” the amended tweet said.
