House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi mocked President Trump’s demands for border-wall funding hours after an Oval Office meeting spiraled out of control, calling it a “manhood thing” for him during a private meeting with Democrats, reports the Hill.
“It’s like a manhood thing for him. As if manhood could ever be associated with him. This wall thing,” the California Democrat told members of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee in a closed-door meeting after returning to the U.S> Capitol.
Pelosi also celebrated the fact that Trump said he would “proudly” take ownership for a government shutdown during the televised meeting.
“But the fact is we did get him to say, to fully own that the shutdown was his,” Pelosi said, according to two sources inside the room.
“That was an accomplishment.“
“It was so wild,” Pelosi described the meeting to her colleagues. “It goes to show you: You get into a tickle contest with a skunk, you get tinkle all over you”
Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to slam Democrats for opposing his $5 billion border wall funding request, despite repeatedly promising U.S. taxpayers during his 2016 campaign that he would make Mexico pay for the border wall. Mexico has refused to pay for the wall. Democratic leaders have already agreed to include $1.6 billion for border security in the funding bill.
“Mexico will pay for the wall, believe me — 100 percent — they don’t know it yet, but they will pay for the wall,” Trump said in September 2016.
Trump also pledged that his long-promised southern border wall “will get built,” threatening to use the military if need be, while falsely claiming that much progress has already been made on the structure.
