Oregon Governor: I Will Refuse Trump’s Order To Send National Guard Troops To Mexico Border

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) has announced that she will reject any request from President Trump to dispatch National Guard troops from her state to the U.S.-Mexico border.

“If @realDonaldTrump asks me to deploy Oregon Guard troops to the Mexico border, I’ll say no,” Brown tweeted.

“As Commander of Oregon’s Guard, I’m deeply troubled by Trump’s plan to militarize our border.”

She added: “There’s been no outreach by the President or federal officials, and I have no intention of allowing Oregon’s guard troops to be used to distract from his troubles in Washington.”

In a presidential memorandum authorizing the request of deployment of Guards to the border, Trump says U.S. security is “imperiled by a drastic surge of illegal activity”, in particular drug trafficking by gangs and unlawful immigration.

He said it is a “crisis” of “lawlessness” at the southern border.

Trump wants to deploy National Guard troops to the Mexican border to secure the area until his proposed wall can be built. His administration has struggled to secure enough funds from Congress to begin construction of the wall he originally said Mexico would pay for.

Trump in recent days has warned of “caravans” of migrants approaching the border and called on Congress to enact tougher regulations.

He also acknowledged that “Border crossings are at a still UNACCEPTABLE 46 year low.”
