Nancy Pelosi: ‘Sean Spicer Must Be Fired’ After Hitler Remarks
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday called on President Trump to fire press secretary Sean Spicer after claiming Adolf Hitler did not use chemical weapons during World War II.
During his daily press briefing on Tuesday, Spicer attempted to compare Syrian President Bashar Assad to Adolf Hitler while responding to a question about last week’s chemical weapons attack in Syria.
“You had a — someone as despicable as Hitler, who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,” Spicer said.
He later tried to clarify by claiming that Hitler “was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing.”
Spicer then added that Hitler brought people into “Holocaust centers” — presumably he meant concentration camps.
Hitler killed millions of Jews and LGBT people, including German citizens, many in gas chambers.
Pelosi has now joined the Anne Frank Center in calling for Spicer to be fired:
Sean Spicer must be fired, and the President must immediately disavow his spokesman’s statements. Either he is speaking for the President, or the President should have known better than to hire him.
“On Passover no less, Sean Spicer has engaged in Holocaust denial, the most offensive form of fake news imaginable, by denying Hitler gassed millions of Jews to death,” Steven Goldstein, the executive director of the center, said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Goldstein called Spicer’s comments “the most evil slur upon a group of people we have ever heard from a White House press secretary.”
“Sean Spicer now lacks the integrity to serve as White House press secretary, and President Trump must fire him at once,” he added.
