As world leaders gathered on Friday morning ahead of the start of the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, MSNBC aired live footage showing President Donald Trump sitting by himself, patting his arm as other leaders greeted each other.
The moment came hours after CNN reported Trump was in a “terrible mood,” “spooked and completely distracted” after his former personal attorney and fixer Michael Cohen reached a new plea deal on Thursday with special counsel Robert Mueller, in which he admitted to lying to Congress about an effort to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

While Trump sat alone, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was filmed aggressively shaking hands and laughing with Vladimir Putin before sitting next to the Russian president. The greeting comes less than two weeks after Salman was implicated in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Just a year earlier, Trump was also seen sitting alone at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, as the rest of the world’s leaders commingled and networked.
