Vice President Pence’s spokesman on Wednesday dodged questions about whether Pence had ever met with Russian operatives.
“The vice president is not focused on the areas in this campaign, especially things that happened before he was even on the ticket,” press secretary Marc Lotter said on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom.”
“As he has said, when he joined the campaign his entire focus was on talking to the American people, taking the case that President Trump was going to make to the American people and doing everything he could to make sure that he and President Trump were elected and sent to Washington.”
“Is that a yes or a no, did he or did he not?” host Bill Hemmer asked.
Lotter said he is “not aware of anything that I have seen,” adding that, during the campaign and since Pence has been “focused on working the agenda that the people send him to Washington to accomplish.”
The Hill added:
The comments from Pence’s press secretary come after Donald Trump Jr. on Tuesday released a chain of emails detailing his conversations about setting up a meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in June 2016.
The release came after The New York Times reported that Trump Jr. was told before the meeting that harmful information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton the lawyer was offering was part of a Russian government effort to help his father’s presidential campaign.
