Michelle Obama Shares Tribute To Baltimore Step Team After Trump’s Racist Attacks On City

Former First Lady Michelle Obama on Saturday shared a very special tribute to a Baltimore dance team after President Trump attacked Rep. Elijah Cummings’ (D-Md.) district as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

“On #NationalDanceDay, I’m shouting out the Lethal Ladies, a Baltimore STEP team who I saw perform back in 2017,” Obama said on Twitter. “I’m so proud of you all—and everyone who’s dancing today!”

The tweet features a video of the step team performing a routine featuring Obama’s famous slogan, “when they go low, we go high.”

Obama’s tweet came just hours after Trump called Cummings as a “brutal bully” while calling his Baltimore-area congressional district “dangerous” and “filthy.”

“Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous,” Trump tweeted early Saturday morning about the majority-black district.

“His district is considered the Worst in the USA as proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded,” Trump continued. “Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) denounced the comments as “racist.”

“Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors,” Cummings tweeted in response. “It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.”
