Former first lady Michelle Obama on Friday issued a response to the nearly-week-long racist rant delivered by President Trump in his attacks of four freshmen Democratic women, who he tweeted should “go back” to their countries of origin.
“What truly makes our country great is its diversity,” Obama tweeted on Friday afternoon.
“I’ve seen that beauty in so many ways over the years,” she continued. “Whether we are born here or seek refuge here, there’s a place for us all.”
“We must remember it’s not my America or your America,” she added. “It’s our America.”

President Trump on Friday escalated his attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) while deflecting blame away from his racist supporters who chanted “send her back” at a Wednesday night rally.
“Those are incredible people. Those are incredible patriots,” Trump said in defense of the thousands of his supporters who chanted “Send her back!” moments after he attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Wednesday night.
When asked by a reporter about his unhappiness with the chants in North Carolina, Trump again lashed out at Rep. Omar.
“You know what I’m unhappy with? The fact that a congresswoman can hate our country,” Trump said. “I’m unhappy with the fact that a congresswoman can say anti-Semitic things.”
“She’s lucky to be where she is, let me tell you,” Trump said of the Somali-born lawmaker whom he told to “go back” to her country of origin. “And the things that she has said are a disgrace to our country.”
