DEMOCRACY
Live Coverage: Georgia Special Election Results
Join us for live coverage of Georgia’s special election on Tuesday, which the Democrat Jon Ossoff has cast as a referendum on President Trump.
Today’s race is to replace new Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price in Georgia’s 6th District. Ossoff is aiming to win the seat outright. He will need to get over 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff. If he succeeds, it would deliver a major blow to President Donald Trump and suggest the GOP’s House majority is in jeopardy in the 2018 midterms.
As of this moment:
Ossoff: 88,562 votes
Top five Republicans: 88,562 votes— Kyle Wingfield AJC (@kwingfieldajc) April 19, 2017
It's possible there are ~1500 heavily Democratic mail-in ballots that aren't included (haven't checked), but not enough to avoid a runoff.

There's around 15k GOP-leaning vote left. I'd guess that brings him down to around 47.7 when it's all through. pic.twitter.com/E6gk3b7Ndr
— Nate Cohn (@Nate_Cohn) April 19, 2017
Big update puts Ossoff at 48.6 percent with 183k votes counted.

JUST IN: Rare data error from one of the cards means Fulton Co. will have to manually go through hundreds of cards to find the culprit.
— WSB-TV (@wsbtv) April 19, 2017
A really bad look that Ossoff is at 50.3% and suddenly Handel's home county has a mysterious "bad card" issue that stops _all_ counting….
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Atlanta reporter claims "bad card" at a single Fulton 6CD precinct has stopped all counting for Fulton 6CD. Yeah… makes no sense.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
Here's the hold up folks: #FultonCounty has a "bad card" at a precinct. Elections officials are trying to solve the problem @wsbtv #GA06 pic.twitter.com/NMhD9fUwQc

Nearing the 80% mark and #Ossoff holding on still at 50%. #GA06 pic.twitter.com/1C1zVSuN63

Cobb is done. Ossoff at 50.3% with 55k in Fulton County left. Our guess he gets 45%; needs 49. Seems small, but very hard. pic.twitter.com/o2qS4rNSPU
— Nate Cohn (@Nate_Cohn) April 19, 2017
67% of #6thDistrict in and Ossoff holding a few fractions above 50% #gapol #6thDistrictShowdown
— 11Alive News (@11AliveNews) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: All Cobb/DeKalb in, Ossoff at 50.3%! 84% of Fulton left. HRC won 46.4% of 6CD Fulton, Ossoff running 1.5% ahead of her generally.

— Brian Ferguson (@BFergusonWSB) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: When last 4% of Cobb reports, Ossoff should be at about 50.1%. He’ll need 49% or better in Fulton; 55.3% now but mostly early votes.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
Now with 46% of precincts reporting: @ossoff = 51% @karenhandel = 18%#GA06 Hill/Gray = 9% each @wsbtv pic.twitter.com/GsvpU7MNZL
— Craig Lucie (@CraigLucie) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: It’s clear now, with 96% of Cobb in and 100% of DeKalb in, that Ossoff will be over 50% from those counties. It’s all _Fulton_, now.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff now up to 50.7%, with _all_ of his best county (DeKalb) in, and 88% of his _worst_ (Cobb). Fulton still only 16% of votes in.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Fulton is Handel’s home district, so it will be tough for Ossoff to maintain his 55.3% there when Election Day votes are counted.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
I don't see this. What are you seeing? Ossoff is generally ahead of Clinton in completed areas https://t.co/3T3oAnxpO7 pic.twitter.com/pJO1xSaWJQ
— Nate Cohn (@Nate_Cohn) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff at 50.1% with _virtually_ all of DeKalb and Cobb in and virtually none of Fulton County—a swing county Ossoff is at 55.3% in.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff at 51% with nearly all DeKalb (left) in, overwhelming majority of Cobb (right), and virtually none of Fulton–a swing county.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: A summary of results so far in GA and how much is left to report in DeKalb (left-leaning), Cobb (right-leaning), and Fulton (swing): pic.twitter.com/Vax0WKnbBn
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Seems clear now Karen Handel will be GOP candidate if there is a runoff. Ossoff’s chance of 50%+ finish may hinge on Fulton County.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff at 50.8% overall with a “considerable” amount of Cobb and DeKalb counties in.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Nate Cohn (the NYT) says Ossoff looks to be heading for about 48% but is still not out of it in terms of reaching the 50% threshold.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff at 53.9% as Fulton continues reporting. DeKalb mostly in.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
Well, the Election Day vote better be great for the GOP. Because the early vote is simply much better than expected for Ossoff pic.twitter.com/osJzYIF4VM
— Nate Cohn (@Nate_Cohn) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: BUZZFEED reports DeKalb (left-leaning) is mostly done, and Ossoff is receiving 58% of the vote there. That will be his best county.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff at 55.6% with around 90K votes in, close to 50% of the total projected vote today. He needs about 45% of the remaining vote.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff at 47% in Cobb County, the most Republican of the three counties voting tonight. Not bad! But that does include early voting.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Projected turnout in GA is 200,000, per NYT, which would suggest we have around 42.5% of the total vote in so far (Ossoff at 56.7%).
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
UPDATE: Ossoff at 56.7% with 85,000 votes in (about half of all votes). DeKalb (left-leaning) has reported more than Cobb/Fulton, though.
— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) April 19, 2017
Keep in mind the turnout so far is very similar to 2014. Not good sign for GOP. #GA06
